Successful candidate will have experience in insurance defense construction defect, personal injury, wrongful death, property damage, premises liability and general civil litigation. First chair trial experience a plus, but not a requirement.
This position requires significant experience taking and defending depositions as lead counsel in seven figure, multi-party cases, including party and expert depositions, attending mediations, arbitrations and substantial law-and-motion experience with oral argument. Candidate must possess a strong work ethic and excellent leadership, case management, communication, research, writing, analytical and advocacy skills. Salary starts at $135,000 based on annual 1,800 billable hours to clients and is commensurate with experience. Substantial bonus considerations for exceeding the annual 1,800 billable hour goal. Qualifications

Experienced Construction Defect Paralegal (5-10 years)
RYAN CARVALHO & RETZ LLP seeks a long term, experienced (5-10 year) Litigation Paralegal with a heavy concentration on Construction Defect and understanding of Owner/General Contractor/Subcontractor Contracts and Subcontracts. This position requires strong, independent organizational skills with minimal supervision, excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to prioritize and work under pressure in a fast paced setting, provide great references, have an “all in” team player attitude and will be required to enter billable time on a daily basis. We utilize a unique and collaborative team approach to our cases and maintain a tight knit firm culture.
Job Duties will include, but not be limited to:
- Draft and respond to CMO/written discovery
- Collaborate with clients to gather information and job file/insurance documents to respond to written discovery
- Analyze key CD related documents such as contracts, subcontracts, agreements, additional insured endorsements, certificates of insurance, etc.
- Voluminous document review/production
- Utilize corporate searches to find potential parties
- Assist attorneys with preparation for depositions, arbitrations, mediations, hearings and trials
- Draft first and supplemental expert designations
- Draft meet and confer letters regarding discovery disputes
- Draft tender letters
- Significant client/expert/vendor contact
- Draft correspondence, memoranda, pleadings and discovery
- Draft, respond to and facilitate service of subpoenas
- Electronically enter billable time on a daily basis and meet a daily billable hour requirement
Qualifications
- 5-10 years of specific Construction Defect experience
- American Bar Association approved Paralegal Certificate required

Full-Time Receptionist / Administrative Assistant

The Receptionist’s job responsibilities will include a variety of duties, including, but not limited to:
- Provide traditional receptionist/administrative support to multiple attorneys and staff
- Answer and screen all incoming telephone calls
- Greet clients, attorneys, court reporters, vendors, etc.
- Collect and post outgoing U.S. Mail utilizing the firm’s postage software
- Electronically process all incoming U.S. Mail/E-Served documents/facsimiles/packages on a daily basis (documents are scanned and electronically coded into our document management system called Worldox in which you will receive detailed training)
- Inventory and order Firm office supplies through various vendors
- Prepare and send Federal Express/UPS orders
- Maintain a tidy appearance of the conference room, lobby, kitchen and plants
- Assist with setting/cleaning up the conference room (water/coffee/cups) for meetings
- Create miscellaneous labeled file folders/expandos/notebooks/binders
- Update various Firm and Client spreadsheets as requested
- Assist with other general administrative tasks as needed

Full-Time Administrative Legal Assistant
RYAN CARVALHO & RETZ LLP is a fast paced, AV rated Civil Litigation law firm located in Mission Valley that has an immediate full-time position for an Administrative Legal Assistant with 0-2 years of experience in California litigation. Specific civil, personal injury, construction defect and insurance defense experience is a plus.
